WFEO leadership met QU Dongyu, Director-General, FAO. We discussed the important role that engineering, mechanization and post-harvest technologies have in helping us to achieve more sustainable agrifood systems and #FoodSecurity. We look forward to strengthening WFEO and FAO cooperation.
WFEO-UNESCO Joint Meeting for Member States – The strategic role of engineering for accelerating the delivery of the 2030 Agenda
This joint event presented the UNESCO-WFEO partnership and contributions to the SDGs by working with Member States, especially on engineering capacity building and education, and how it is relevant to the variety of regional and national contexts with regard to building more inclusive and responsible communities. It took place at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, Room IV, Thursday 27 October 2022.

Prof. Gong Ke, Director of the Academic Committee of Nankai University, former Chairman of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) and Executive President of Chinese Institute of New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Strategies, was invited to give a keynote speech at the “Artificial Intelligence + Innovative Development of Vocational Education” forum held on the afternoon of August 20.

On June 1, the United Nations’ World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) was held in Geneva, Switzerland. The project “COVID-19 Knowledge and Data Hub”, headed by Prof. Gong Ke, former President of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations and Chair of the Academic Committee of Nankai University, was awarded the Champion of WSIS Prizes 2021 in Category 7 ICT Application: e-Science.

On June 15th, Gong Ke, Executive Director of the CINGAI, led a research team and visited SenseTime,an artificial intelligence company. Yang Fan, Co-founder and Vice President of SenseTime, Tian Feng, Dean of the Intelligent Industry Research Institute of SenseTime and other project developers exchanged their views on the development of the artificial intelligence industry, artificial intelligence ethics and so on.

The International Science Council has today announced the creation of a Fellowship and appointment of 66 Foundation Fellows who are recognized for their outstanding contributions to promoting science as a global public good. The Fellowship is the highest honour that can be conferred on an individual by the International Science Council. Prof. GONG is in the list of 66 Foundation Fellows.

Under the theme “ICTs for Well-Being, Inclusion and Resilience: WSIS Cooperation for Accelerating Progress on the SDGs”, the WSIS Forum 2022 highlighted the implementation of the WSIS Action Lines in accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The seventh annual Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the SDGs (STI Forum) will be held from 5 to 6 May 2022, convened by the President of UN ECOSOC. The theme of the STI Forum is closely aligned with the 2022 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development and is “Science, technology and innovation for building back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”.
